Harley’s Hamper Program was named after Harley Smith – a Weimaraner with an intense love of food and dog parks. Sadly, Harley passed away at the age of 9 after a courageous battle with lymphoma. Harley’s parents are the founders of Parachutes for Pets and knew that a program to help ensure that animals always had a full belly would honour his memory perfectly.
Parachutes for Pets supplies the pet food & supplies for Veteran’s hampers on a monthly basis, as well as the pet food & supplies for Horizon Housing and Seniors Resource Society through the holidays. Low-income households within Calgary city limits can also apply for a food hamper once every 3 months for a maximum of 4 hampers per year. Only 1 program can be accessed at a time – please do not apply for all programs at once. Please note that proof of low-income status will need to be provided, such as a CPP payment stub/deposit slip; AISH card; or a payment stub from a low-income program/letter from a support worker stating low-income status.
